Identifying Risk Factors for Cancer in Patients with Type 2 Diabetes
Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus and Cancer: Phenotyping of Patients at a Third-level Diabetes Centre

What this trial studies
This observational study aims to explore the relationship between type 2 diabetes mellitus and cancer by identifying risk factors that may influence tumor development and progression. It will utilize a monocentric retrospective cohort design, analyzing data from patients diagnosed with type 2 diabetes at the Endocrinology and Diabetology surgery of the AOU Major of the Charity of Novara between 1990 and 2010. The study will track the onset of cancer in these patients and assess the time interval between their diabetes diagnosis and cancer occurrence. This information is crucial for developing effective preventive strategies in clinical practice.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adults diagnosed with type 2 diabetes mellitus between 1990 and 2010.
Not a fit: Patients who were diagnosed with cancer prior to their diabetes diagnosis or have diabetes secondary to other conditions or treatments may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved preventive measures and treatment strategies for patients with type 2 diabetes at risk of developing cancer.
How similar studies have performed: While the relationship between diabetes and cancer has been explored in various studies, this specific approach of phenotyping patients in a retrospective cohort setting is relatively novel.
