Identifying new treatment targets for childhood brain tumors

Novel Molecular Targets and Innovative Therapeutic Perspective in Medulloblastoma

Early Phase 1 Interventional Fondazione Policlinico Universitario Agostino Gemelli IRCCS · NCT06959979

This study is trying to find new ways to treat a rare brain tumor in kids by looking at genetic markers that could make them respond better to a type of cancer drug used for breast cancer.

What this trial studies

This project focuses on medulloblastoma, a rare pediatric brain tumor, and aims to identify genetic markers that influence sensitivity to CDK4/6 inhibitors, which are currently used in breast cancer treatment. By utilizing high-throughput molecular biology techniques, the study will analyze the genetic and transcriptomic profiles of medulloblastoma to understand how these factors contribute to treatment resistance. The goal is to improve therapeutic strategies for children with this aggressive cancer by overcoming the limitations of existing treatments.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are children diagnosed with medulloblastoma who have undergone surgical treatment.

Not a fit: Patients with medulloblastoma who are not eligible for surgical intervention or those with other concurrent severe health conditions may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to more effective and targeted therapies for children with medulloblastoma, reducing neurotoxicity and improving long-term outcomes.

How similar studies have performed: While CDK4/6 inhibitors have shown promise in other cancers, this specific application in medulloblastoma is novel and has not been extensively tested.
