Identifying metabolic features linked to melanoma spread
Identification of Metabolic Phenotypes Associated With Melanoma Metastasis
University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center · NCT06400550
This study is trying to see if the metabolic features of melanoma tumors can help predict how the cancer spreads and affects survival in patients undergoing surgery.

What this trial studies
This observational study aims to assess the metabolic characteristics of melanoma tumors in patients undergoing surgical biopsy or excision. It involves collecting tumor tissue samples and analyzing them using mass spectrometry for metabolomic profiling. Additionally, a subset of patients will receive U-13C glucose infusions to facilitate isotope tracing metabolic analysis, allowing researchers to correlate clinical outcomes such as survival and metastasis with the metabolic findings.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults over 18 with known or probable malignant melanoma lesions requiring surgical intervention.
Not a fit: Patients who are not surgical candidates or have poorly controlled diabetes may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance understanding of melanoma metastasis and lead to improved treatment strategies.
How similar studies have performed: While this approach is innovative, similar studies have shown promise in understanding metabolic profiles in cancer, suggesting potential for success.
