What this trial studies

This observational study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of various assessment scales used by physicians to identify cancer patients at low risk of developing serious complications from pulmonary thromboembolism (PTE) within 30 days of diagnosis. By analyzing data from patients who presented to the Emergency Department with PTE, the study seeks to determine which patients can be safely discharged early, thereby reducing unnecessary hospital stays. The research will include both retrospective and prospective enrollment of patients diagnosed with PTE during their cancer treatment. The goal is to improve patient care and resource utilization in emergency medicine.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adults aged 18 and older with a diagnosis of pulmonary embolism and active onco-haematological disease.

Not a fit: Patients returning to the Emergency Department for complications related to previously diagnosed pulmonary embolism may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to safer early discharge protocols for low-risk cancer patients with pulmonary embolism, improving their quality of life and reducing hospital costs.

How similar studies have performed: While there have been studies on early discharge protocols for various conditions, this specific approach for cancer patients with pulmonary embolism is relatively novel.
