Identifying infection markers in invasive fusariosis

Multicenter Study on Invasive Fusariosis : Looking for Markers of Infection and Resistance

Central Hospital, Nancy, France · NCT04937751

What this trial studies

This observational study aims to analyze the proportions of different Fusarium species in positive fungal cultures from patients suspected of invasive fungal infections or fungal keratitis. It will also evaluate the levels of specific biomarkers, such as galactomannans and beta (1,3)-D-glucans, and assess the detection of circulating DNA in both case and control groups. The study seeks to enhance the understanding of Fusarium infections and their resistance to common antifungal treatments.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates include individuals with suspected invasive fungal infections who are undergoing blood cultures or skin biopsies, as well as those diagnosed with fungal keratitis.

Not a fit: Patients with superficial fusarium infections, such as onychomycosis, are unlikely to benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved diagnostic methods and treatment strategies for patients suffering from invasive fusariosis.

How similar studies have performed: While there is limited data on similar studies specifically targeting Fusarium infections, the approach of identifying biomarkers in fungal infections has shown promise in other contexts.
