Identifying genetic factors in Listeriosis
Genetic Susceptibility to Listeriosis - Listeria-GEN
This study is trying to find out if certain genes make some people more likely to get severe Listeriosis, especially in older adults and those with weakened immune systems.

What this trial studies
This study investigates the genetic susceptibility to Listeriosis, a severe foodborne infection primarily affecting the elderly and immunocompromised individuals. It is part of the ongoing MONALISA project, which has been collecting data since 2009 to analyze risk factors and outcomes associated with Listeriosis. The study aims to identify genetic markers that may explain why some individuals develop severe forms of the disease, including neurolisteriosis, while others do not. By analyzing human biological samples from affected patients and their relatives, the research seeks to enhance treatment and prevention strategies for this rare infection.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates include individuals with microbiologically documented Listeriosis, particularly those under 40 years old without identified risk factors.
Not a fit: Patients with Listeriosis who do not meet the inclusion criteria or those unable to provide informed consent may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved prevention and treatment strategies for patients at risk of severe Listeriosis.
How similar studies have performed: While genetic susceptibility in Listeriosis has not been extensively studied, similar approaches in other infectious diseases have shown promise in identifying risk factors and improving patient outcomes.
