Identifying compounds to predict epileptic seizures
Identification of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) as Biopredictors of Epileptic Seizures
Fondation Ophtalmologique Adolphe de Rothschild · NCT05865561

What this trial studies
This observational study aims to identify volatile organic compounds (VOCs) that may serve as biopredictors for epileptic seizures. By analyzing VOCs, the study seeks to develop a method for predicting seizures, which could enhance the quality of life for individuals with epilepsy by allowing for preventive measures. Participants will undergo VOC sampling and require at least 48 hours of video-EEG monitoring to assess their seizure types. The study focuses on individuals with drug-resistant epilepsy, aiming to provide insights into seizure anticipation.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adults aged 18 and older with drug-resistant epilepsy experiencing specific types of seizures.
Not a fit: Patients with epilepsy who are currently benefiting from legal protection measures other than curatorship or guardianship may not receive benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could significantly improve the quality of life for patients with epilepsy by enabling seizure prediction and prevention.
How similar studies have performed: While there have been attempts to develop seizure prediction methods, this approach using VOCs is relatively novel and has not been widely tested.
