Identifying brain lesions in multiple sclerosis using advanced MRI techniques

Early Identification of Brain Lesions in Multiple Sclerosis With Phase Sensitive Inversion Recovery MRI: A Cross-sectional Study

Benha University · NCT06955832

What this trial studies

This observational study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of Phase-Sensitive Inversion Recovery (PSIR) MRI in detecting early brain lesions in patients diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS). It will compare the diagnostic accuracy of PSIR MRI against conventional T2-weighted and Fluid Attenuated Inversion Recovery MRI sequences. Participants aged 15-65 years will be included based on the 2017 McDonald criteria for MS. The study hypothesizes that PSIR MRI will identify more cortical lesions and correlate better with clinical measures than traditional MRI methods.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are individuals aged 15-65 years who have been diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis according to the McDonald criteria.

Not a fit: Patients with conditions such as stroke, previous intracranial hemorrhage, or those who cannot undergo MRI scans may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to earlier and more accurate diagnosis of brain lesions in MS patients, potentially improving treatment outcomes.

How similar studies have performed: While the use of advanced MRI techniques in MS is a growing field, this specific approach using PSIR MRI for early lesion detection is relatively novel and has not been extensively tested in prior studies.
