Identifying biomarkers for diabetes remission after bariatric surgery

Identification of Human Circulating Adipocyte and Muscle Biomarkers Potentially Predictive of Diabetes Remission After Bariatric Surgery in Obese and Type 2 Diabetic Subjects.

Not applicable Interventional University Hospital, Toulouse · NCT05472883

What this trial studies

This study aims to identify human biomarkers that may predict diabetes remission in obese patients with type 2 diabetes following bariatric surgery. Researchers at the Institute of Metabolic and Cardiovascular Diseases will analyze blood, muscle, and adipose tissue samples from participants to measure the concentrations of nine candidate proteins associated with glucose control. The goal is to enhance existing clinical models for predicting diabetes remission by incorporating these biomarkers. Participants will be closely monitored for one year post-surgery to assess outcomes.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are obese individuals with a body mass index of 35 kg/m² or higher who have type 2 diabetes and are scheduled for bariatric surgery.

Not a fit: Patients with type 1 diabetes, those who are pregnant or breastfeeding, and individuals unable to provide informed consent will not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved prediction of diabetes remission in patients undergoing bariatric surgery, potentially enhancing treatment outcomes.

How similar studies have performed: Other studies have explored biomarkers in diabetes remission, but this specific approach focusing on adipocyte and muscle biomarkers post-bariatric surgery is relatively novel.
