What this trial studies

This observational cohort study aims to identify biomarkers associated with Alzheimer's disease (AD) in a local Chinese population. Participants will undergo a series of cognitive assessments, blood tests, brain MRI scans, brain PET scans, and retinal imaging at baseline and during six yearly follow-ups. The study hypothesizes that blood-based proteomics, retinal imaging, and advanced imaging techniques can enhance the accuracy of early detection and staging of AD. By focusing on early detection, the study seeks to contribute to the understanding of AD progression and potential interventions.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are individuals of Chinese ethnicity with a clinical diagnosis of probable Alzheimer's disease.

Not a fit: Patients with non-Alzheimer's dementia or contraindications for MRI or PET scans may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved early detection methods for Alzheimer's disease, allowing for timely interventions.

How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown promise in identifying biomarkers for Alzheimer's disease, but this specific approach focusing on the Chinese population is relatively novel.
