What this trial studies

This observational study aims to assess the levels of anxiety experienced by parents before and after their children undergo thoracic surgery. It will identify risk factors associated with perioperative anxiety, focusing on modifiable elements that can be addressed through tailored psychological interventions. The study will also explore the relationship between parental anxiety and satisfaction with postoperative pain management. By understanding these dynamics, the goal is to enhance coping mechanisms for parents, ultimately benefiting the recovery process of their children.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are parents of children under 18 years who are scheduled for thoracic surgery and will receive intravenous or epidural postoperative analgesia.

Not a fit: Parents who are not Polish nationals, have communication difficulties, or whose children are undergoing oncological treatment may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved psychological support for parents, enhancing their coping strategies and potentially benefiting their children's recovery.

How similar studies have performed: While there is existing literature on parental anxiety during pediatric surgeries, this specific focus on thoracic surgery and its associated risk factors is relatively novel.
