Identifying a brain activity marker for blood vessel reopening in stroke patients

Search for a Recanalization of the Sylvian Artery Electro-Physiological Biomarker

What this trial studies

This observational study aims to identify an electroencephalographic (EEG) biomarker that indicates successful recanalization of the sylvian artery in patients experiencing acute ischemic stroke (AIS). The study will monitor patients undergoing thrombectomy to validate the EEG biomarker in real-time during the procedure. By establishing a correlation between the EEG readings and recanalization, the research seeks to improve the assessment of treatment efficacy during intravenous thrombolysis in future studies.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults over 18 years old who have a cerebral infarction with proximal occlusion of the sylvian artery and require thrombectomy.

Not a fit: Patients who are pregnant, breastfeeding, or have had recent cranial surgery that prevents EEG placement may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide a non-invasive method to monitor and validate treatment effectiveness in stroke patients, potentially improving outcomes.

How similar studies have performed: While the approach of using EEG biomarkers in this context is innovative, similar studies have not been widely reported, indicating this may be a novel exploration.
