What this trial studies

This is a randomized, interventional study testing hypnotic communication delivered before and during elective coronary angiography in adult patients. Participants are randomized to receive suggestion-based, empathetic hypnotic communication versus usual care at a single center in Ponderano (Biella), Italy. Outcomes include measures of preoperative anxiety, procedural pain, hemodynamic stability, and peri-procedural medication use and recovery. The intervention targets patients who can understand Italian and does not include those with major cognitive or psychiatric disorders.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Adults (≥18 years) scheduled for elective coronary angiography at the Azienda Sanitaria Locale di Biella who can read and understand Italian and do not have major cognitive or psychiatric disorders are ideal candidates.

Not a fit: Patients with cognitive impairment, neurodegenerative disease, major psychiatric illness, or who do not speak Italian are unlikely to benefit from this suggestion-based intervention.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, the approach could reduce pre-procedure anxiety and pain, lower anesthetic and analgesic needs, and improve peri-procedural stability and recovery.

How similar studies have performed: Hypnosis and suggestion-based techniques have shown promise in anesthesiology and other procedural settings, but randomized evidence specific to cardiology and coronary angiography remains limited.
