What this trial studies

This study investigates the effects of hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) on men suffering from infertility due to oligospermia, which is characterized by a low sperm count. The research aims to determine whether HBOT can improve sperm count by enhancing mitochondrial function and telomere length, both of which are crucial for sperm health. Eligible participants will undergo HBOT and their sperm quality will be assessed through multiple examinations. The study seeks to provide insights into a potential new treatment for male infertility.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are men over 21 years old who have been diagnosed with idiopathic oligospermia and have had at least two sperm examinations showing low sperm counts.

Not a fit: Patients with active malignancies, severe chronic diseases, or those who have previously undergone hyperbaric oxygen therapy may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this therapy could significantly improve fertility outcomes for men with oligospermia.

How similar studies have performed: While the application of HBOT for infertility is relatively novel, preliminary studies suggest potential benefits, though more research is needed to establish its efficacy.
