Hybrid mirror-primed rehabilitation for unilateral stroke
Hybrid Stroke Rehabilitation With Mirror Priming
This trial will test whether adding enhanced mirror priming to conventional therapy helps adults who had a first-time one-sided stroke at least three months ago improve upper-arm movement.

What this trial studies
This interventional study compares an enhanced mirror priming approach combined with conventional therapy to conventional therapy alone to optimize and personalize upper-limb rehabilitation after unilateral stroke. Participants are adults aged 20–80 with a first-ever unilateral stroke at least three months prior and a baseline Fugl-Meyer Assessment Upper Extremity score above 10, with no severe spasticity and the ability to follow instructions. The program delivers supervised in-person sessions at E-Da Hospital where mirror-priming procedures are applied alongside standard rehabilitation exercises to promote motor relearning. Primary outcomes will focus on changes in upper-extremity motor function and the tolerability of the enhanced priming protocol.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults aged 20–80 with a first-ever unilateral stroke at least three months earlier, a baseline FMA-UE score greater than 10, no severe spasticity in the affected arm, and the ability to follow instructions and provide consent.
Not a fit: Patients with severe spasticity, very low baseline motor scores, unstable medical conditions, or those within three months of a stroke are unlikely to benefit from this intervention.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, the approach could improve upper-arm motor recovery and enable more personalized rehabilitation plans for people with chronic unilateral stroke.
How similar studies have performed: Traditional mirror therapy has shown modest motor benefits in prior studies, while enhanced or hybrid mirror-priming approaches are relatively novel with limited published evidence.
