What this trial studies
This is an observational, single-center study enrolling married male patients with decompensated chronic liver disease who are awaiting elective liver transplantation and men who have already undergone transplantation with stable graft function. Researchers will collect information on sexual function and quality of life using standard questionnaires and clinical data, and compare patterns between pre-transplant and post-transplant participants. Patients with ongoing medical or surgical complications or with acute liver failure are excluded to focus on stable elective cases. The study takes place at the Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences in New Delhi and involves no experimental treatment.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Married men with decompensated chronic liver disease awaiting elective liver transplantation or men post-liver transplant with stable graft function who can attend the ILBS clinic and give consent are the intended participants.
Not a fit: Patients with ongoing biliary or graft complications, acute on chronic liver failure, acute liver failure, or those who do not meet the marital status requirement are unlikely to gain direct benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, the findings could help doctors and patients understand typical recovery of sexual function after liver transplant and guide counseling and supportive care.
How similar studies have performed: Previous literature has reported recovery of erectile function in male patients after liver transplantation, including improvement noted around six months post-transplant, so this approach builds on existing observational findings.
