How limb fractures affect returning to work
Professional Impact of Osteoarticular Trauma: Retrospective Study on Return to Work, Accommodations, and Recognition in the Workplace
Hopitaux de Saint-Maurice · NCT07419217

What this trial studies
This observational study follows adults treated for osteoarticular (bone and joint) trauma at Hôpitaux de Saint-Maurice between June 2021 and June 2024, tracking return-to-work outcomes over 12 months. It collects clinical data (injury severity, functional recovery, pain), professional details (job type, employer support, workplace accommodations), and administrative factors (disability recognition and occupational health contacts). The study also records when return-to-work conversations are first raised during hospitalization and maps care pathways and coordination with occupational health. Analyses will identify medical, social, and organizational factors associated with quicker or delayed return to work to inform improvements in practice and policy.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Adults who were employed before an osteoarticular (limb fracture) injury and were treated at the Saint-Maurice rehabilitation and trauma service between June 2021 and June 2024 and who can complete follow-up questionnaires are ideal candidates.
Not a fit: People who were unemployed before the injury, who died or developed severe disability preventing questionnaire completion, protected persons, or those who refuse participation are not expected to benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, the findings could help hospitals, employers, and policymakers design better supports to speed and sustain return to work after limb fractures.
How similar studies have performed: Previous observational studies have identified medical and workplace predictors of return to work after injury, but this study focuses specifically on French care pathways and the timing of return-to-work discussions during hospitalization.
