What this trial studies

This observational study collects vascular grafts from patients undergoing CABG to compare cellular and structural signs of aging in arteries versus veins. Lab analyses will examine endothelial cells, vessel wall stiffness and thickness, and platelet-related markers of senescence. Patients with hypertension, diabetes, or systemic inflammatory disease are excluded to reduce confounding. The work is performed at CHU Saint-Étienne and aims to map differences in aging processes across vessel types.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Adults scheduled for coronary artery bypass grafting at CHU Saint-Étienne who do not have hypertension, diabetes, or systemic inflammatory disease are the intended participants.

Not a fit: People with hypertension, diabetes, systemic inflammatory disease, or those not undergoing CABG are unlikely to be eligible or to directly benefit from this protocol.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this could clarify which vessel types age faster and why, helping guide future prevention or targeted therapies for age-related cardiovascular disease.

How similar studies have performed: Previous work has shown endothelial cell aging and platelet changes with age, but direct artery-versus-vein comparisons using patient grafts are limited, making this approach relatively novel.
