What this trial studies
This intervention aims to pilot test the effects of a caregiver supervision program on reducing injury frequency among children aged 3-4 years. The study will involve 100 caregivers who will be randomly assigned to either a treatment group receiving enhanced supervision support or a control group receiving standard services. Caregivers will be recruited from Head Start programs, and their participation will not affect the services they receive. The findings will inform a larger-scale study to further evaluate the intervention's effectiveness.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are primary caregivers of children aged 3-4 years who can speak and read English.
Not a fit: Families with children diagnosed with pervasive developmental disorders or those who are blind or deaf may not benefit from this intervention.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this intervention could significantly reduce injury rates among young children in low-income families.
How similar studies have performed: While this approach is novel in its specific focus on low-income families, similar interventions have shown promise in reducing child injuries in other populations.
