Home-based exercise program for COPD patients
A Cluster Randomised Controlled Trial on the Effects of Long-term Home-based Exercise for Patients With Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease With Recent Exacerbation: the COPDtoParis Project

What this trial studies
This randomized controlled trial investigates the effects of long-term, interactive home-based cycle exercise on patients with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) following a hospital admission due to exacerbation. Participants will use a pedal-exerciser at home while receiving visual feedback through the 4Mvideo app, which simulates a real-life cycling experience. The study aims to assess improvements in walking distance, COPD symptoms, health-related quality of life, and overall daily activity levels compared to a control group. The hypothesis is that this home-based approach will enhance adherence to exercise and maintain the benefits of pulmonary rehabilitation.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults over 18 years old with a history of COPD who have recently been hospitalized for exacerbation and reside in Aalborg Municipality.
Not a fit: Patients with terminal illnesses, unstable heart conditions, or other severe physical limitations may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this program could significantly improve the quality of life and physical fitness of COPD patients.
How similar studies have performed: Previous studies have shown positive outcomes with home-based exercise interventions for COPD, suggesting potential for success in this approach.
