High-Intensity Interval Training for Type 2 Diabetes Management
IS SHORT-DURATION, HIGH-INTENSITY-INTERVAL TRAINING (HIIT) SUPERIOR TO POPULATION-BASED MODERATE-INTENSITY PHYSICAL ACTIVITY GUIDELINES FOR INDIVIDUALS WITH TYPE 2 DIABETES? A PILOT STUDY
This study is testing if high-intensity interval training done at home can help adults with type 2 diabetes manage their condition better than regular exercise.

What this trial studies
This pilot study evaluates the feasibility of prescribing high-intensity interval training (HIIT) through virtual care for adults with type 2 diabetes. Participants will be randomly assigned to either a standard physical activity intervention or a HIIT program that they can perform at their convenience. Data on weight, physical activity, and hemoglobin A1C levels will be collected at baseline and after three and six months. The findings will inform a larger randomized control trial aimed at improving chronic disease management through innovative exercise prescriptions.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults aged 18 and older with a diagnosis of type 2 diabetes who are capable of exercising safely.
Not a fit: Patients under 18, pregnant individuals, or those with recent myocardial infarction may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could lead to more effective management of type 2 diabetes and improved patient outcomes.
How similar studies have performed: Previous studies have shown promise in using interval training for diabetes management, suggesting potential success for this approach.
