What this trial studies
This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of a standardized approach that includes counseling and Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) to assist e-cigarette users in quitting vaping. Participants will be randomly assigned to receive either counseling combined with NRT or counseling alone. The study will track self-reported rates of vaping cessation over the course of a year. Given the rising use of e-cigarettes, particularly among youth, this research seeks to address a significant public health concern. The findings could provide insights into effective cessation strategies for e-cigarette users.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adults over 18 years old who are regular e-cigarette users and reside in Ontario.
Not a fit: Patients with cognitive impairments, acute psychiatric illnesses, or those currently participating in other cessation programs may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could significantly improve cessation rates among e-cigarette users, contributing to better overall public health.
How similar studies have performed: While there is some evidence suggesting e-cigarettes may aid in smoking cessation, this specific approach using the Ottawa Model for Smoking Cessation is relatively novel.
