Heart complications after kidney removal surgery
Myocardial Injury After Radical Nephrectomy
Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust · NCT06515431

What this trial studies
This observational study aims to investigate the occurrence of myocardial injury (MINS) in patients undergoing radical nephrectomy for suspected renal cancer. It focuses on identifying risk factors associated with MINS, particularly in older patients or those with pre-existing heart conditions. The study will monitor troponin levels in the blood post-surgery to detect MINS, which can lead to serious cardiac events. Understanding the prevalence of MINS will help in assessing patient risk and guiding future treatment decisions.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adults aged 18 and above who are undergoing radical nephrectomy for suspected renal cancer.
Not a fit: Patients under 18 or those undergoing partial nephrectomy will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could help identify patients at high risk for heart complications, leading to better preoperative management and improved outcomes.
How similar studies have performed: While the specific occurrence of MINS after nephrectomy has not been extensively studied, similar observational studies have successfully identified cardiac risks in surgical populations.
