What this trial studies

This mixed-methods observational project surveys practicing orthotics and prosthetics professionals about their attitudes, technology acceptance, and competencies with generative artificial intelligence using validated questionnaires. The study plans to enroll about 175 professionals to achieve adequate statistical power and will use multiple standardized scales to quantify acceptance, attitudes, perception, and self-reported AI competency. Participants who actively use AI will take part in semi-structured face-to-face interviews followed by an online focus group to explore workflow, economic, ethical, and safety concerns in depth. Findings will be used to identify barriers, educational needs, and institutional policy considerations for integrating AI into orthotics and prosthetics practice.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal participants are healthcare professionals aged 18 or older with at least one year of professional experience working in orthotics and prosthetics who are currently practicing in clinical, academic, or research settings.

Not a fit: Patients who are not treated by orthotics and prosthetics providers or whose providers do not adopt AI-supported practices are unlikely to see direct benefit from this project.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this work could help produce better-trained orthotics and prosthetics clinicians and support safer, more effective use of AI in patient care.

How similar studies have performed: Surveys in other clinical fields have shown mixed but growing acceptance of AI among clinicians, while focused research specifically in orthotics and prosthetics is still limited.
