Hand strengthening for competitive female badminton players
Effects of Targeted Isometric and Isotonic Hand Strengthening on Hand Function, Dexterity, Grip Strength and Grip Endurance in Competitive Female Badminton Athletes
This study will test whether two types of hand exercises—isometric (holding) or isotonic (moving resistance)—help improve grip strength, dexterity, and endurance in right-handed competitive female badminton players aged 18–30.

What this trial studies
This randomized trial assigns right-handed competitive female badminton players aged 18–30 to either an isometric or an isotonic hand-strengthening program performed three times weekly for six weeks. Outcomes are measured at baseline, week 3, and week 6 using the Michigan Hand Outcomes Questionnaire, Purdue Pegboard Test or Nine-Hole Peg Test, hand dynamometer, and sustained grip test. Participants must have at least two years of competitive badminton experience and no upper-limb injury in the prior six months. Supervised sessions take place at the Punjab Sports Board facility in Lahore.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Right-hand–dominant female badminton athletes aged 18–30 with at least two years of competitive experience and no upper-limb injury in the past six months are ideal candidates.
Not a fit: Individuals with recent upper-limb injury, active cardiovascular or metabolic conditions limiting exercise, medications that affect muscle performance, current upper-limb rehabilitation, left-handed players, or those outside the 18–30 age range are unlikely to benefit.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, the program could increase grip strength and dexterity and improve shot control and resilience to hand-related injury for competitive female badminton players.
How similar studies have performed: Similar hand-strengthening programs have shown modest gains in grip strength and function in other athletic and rehabilitation groups, but direct evidence in competitive badminton players is limited.
