What this trial studies

This observational study aims to collect data from surgical units across Italy that perform emergency surgeries for complicated acute diverticulitis in 2024. It will gather information on various factors such as the classification of diverticulitis, timing of procedures, types of surgeries performed, and postoperative outcomes over a one-year follow-up period. The data will be collected through a database managed by the Italian Society of Colorectal Surgery, focusing on complication rates and mortality at one, six, and twelve months post-surgery.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adults aged 18 and older who require surgical intervention for acute diverticulitis within 48 hours of diagnosis.

Not a fit: Patients who are under 18, receiving conservative treatment, or diagnosed with colorectal cancer will not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could improve surgical management and outcomes for patients with complicated acute diverticulitis.

How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown success in improving surgical outcomes for diverticulitis, making this approach relevant and potentially impactful.
