What this trial studies
This pilot uses an eight-week internet-based cognitive behavioral therapy program with weekly guidance from a therapist, adapted from methods that have been effective for depression, anxiety, and stress. The study uses a within-group design comparing participants' self-reported symptoms before treatment, immediately after treatment, and at one- and two-year follow-ups. Participants must be Swedish-speaking adults with internet access who report mild to moderate psychological symptoms related to economic issues. Key exclusions include severe psychiatric or somatic illness, ongoing addiction, acute suicidality, concurrent psychotherapy, or recent/planned psychotropic medication changes.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Adults (18+) who speak Swedish, have internet access, and experience mild to moderate psychological symptoms tied to economic problems without severe medical/psychiatric conditions, active addiction, acute suicidality, concurrent psychological treatment, or recent/planned medication changes are ideal candidates.
Not a fit: People with severe psychiatric or somatic illness, acute suicidality, ongoing addiction, active psychotherapy, recent or planned changes in psychotropic medications, or who cannot read Swedish or use the internet are unlikely to benefit from this program.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, participants may have reduced depression and anxiety related to financial stress and improved coping using a convenient online format.
How similar studies have performed: Therapist-guided internet-based CBT has shown effectiveness for depression, anxiety, and stress in prior studies, but applying it specifically to economy-related psychological symptoms is being tested here as a pilot.
