What this trial studies
This pilot study investigates the impact of a 12-week group exercise program on balance in individuals diagnosed with knee osteoarthritis. Participants will attend two visits at the School of Kinesiology, where they will complete questionnaires and a balance test. Over the course of the study, participants will engage in exercise classes twice a week, focusing on flexibility, strength, and coordination, with options to adjust intensity based on individual fitness levels. The program can be completed in person or at home, making it accessible for participants.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults diagnosed with medial compartment knee osteoarthritis who are cleared to participate in an exercise program.
Not a fit: Patients with severe knee trauma, recent knee surgery, or other significant health conditions affecting balance may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this intervention could enhance balance and overall mobility for patients suffering from knee osteoarthritis.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown positive outcomes with exercise interventions for knee osteoarthritis, suggesting potential success for this approach.
