What this trial studies
The TEAM trial evaluates the effectiveness of a group-based social affiliation intervention aimed at increasing physical activity among inactive African American women. Participants will be randomly assigned to either the TEAM-PA intervention or a standard group-delivered physical activity program. The study will take place over five years at community centers, focusing on a 10-week intervention period followed by a 6-month follow-up to assess changes in daily physical activity levels. The goal is to determine if social support within a group setting can enhance physical activity engagement.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are African American or Black women aged 18 and older who engage in less than 60 minutes of moderate to vigorous physical activity per week.
Not a fit: Patients with cardiovascular or orthopedic conditions that limit physical activity, those who are pregnant, or individuals with uncontrolled high blood pressure may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this intervention could significantly improve physical activity levels and overall health outcomes for African American women.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown success with community-based interventions aimed at increasing physical activity, suggesting that this approach may be effective.
