What this trial studies

This cross-sectional study will screen systemically healthy adults aged 18–45 at a tertiary dental center in Rohtak for gingival recession (≥1 mm) and record clinical findings. Recession cases will be classified using the Cairo et al. system and information on potential risk factors will be collected. Participants will complete an oral health-related quality of life questionnaire to measure the impact of recession on daily function and well-being. Individuals with systemic disease, medications linked to gingival enlargement, recent or ongoing orthodontic treatment, mobile or prosthetically involved teeth, or endodontically treated teeth will be excluded.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Systemically healthy adults aged 18–45 with at least 1 mm of gingival recession who can give informed consent and attend PGIDS Rohtak are ideal candidates.

Not a fit: People with systemic conditions, on medications that cause gingival enlargement, undergoing or having undergone orthodontic treatment, with mobile or prosthetically involved teeth, endodontically treated teeth, or those outside the 18–45 age range are excluded and unlikely to benefit from this screening-focused project.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If results show clear links between recession, risk factors, and reduced oral quality of life, clinicians could better target prevention, sensitivity management, and cosmetic care for affected patients.

How similar studies have performed: Numerous regional cross-sectional studies have reported prevalence of gingival recession and used the Cairo classification, and several have shown links between recession and reduced oral health-related quality of life, so this study mainly adds local data from Haryana.
