What this trial studies
This study focuses on elderly patients aged 65 and older who have metastatic or unresectable gastric, biliary, and pancreatic cancers. It aims to assess the impact of frailty intervention measures on the outcomes of these patients receiving palliative chemotherapy. The study addresses the challenges faced by elderly patients, including concerns about treatment toxicity and comorbidities, which often lead to under-treatment. By implementing a comprehensive geriatric assessment, the study seeks to optimize chemotherapy administration and improve quality of life for this vulnerable population.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are patients aged 65 or older with metastatic or unresectable gastric, biliary, or pancreatic cancer who can provide informed consent.
Not a fit: Patients with cognitive impairments or those receiving concurrent anticancer treatments may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this intervention could enhance the quality of life and survival outcomes for elderly patients with advanced GI cancers.
How similar studies have performed: While there is limited data on this specific intervention, similar approaches in geriatric oncology have shown promise in improving treatment outcomes.
