Genetic testing for breast cancer patients in Chinese communities

Screening of Genetic Susceptibility Genes for Breast Cancer Patients and Establishment of High-risk Populations in Chinese Communities

What this trial studies

This community-based prospective study focuses on breast cancer patients in eastern China, aiming to identify genetic susceptibility by testing for mutations in BRCA1, BRCA2, PTEN, CHEK2, and PALB2 genes. The study will involve up to 5000 breast cancer survivors who will provide clinical and genetic information, as well as family history. The research will measure mutation rates and establish a prediction model for genetic mutations, using logistic regression and the Kin-Cohort method to assess cancer penetrance in mutation carriers.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates include breast cancer patients of any age, regardless of gender, who are willing to participate and provide informed consent.

Not a fit: Patients who are healthy or have other malignant tumors without breast cancer will not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance understanding of genetic risks for breast cancer, leading to better screening and prevention strategies.

How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown success in identifying genetic mutations related to breast cancer, making this approach both relevant and promising.
