Genetic study of SIRT1 in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease in Egypt
SIRT1(rs7069102 ) Gene Polymorphism in Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease at Egyptian Patients
This study is trying to see if certain changes in the SIRT1 gene affect how severe COPD is and how patients respond to treatment in Egypt.

What this trial studies
This observational study aims to investigate the SIRT1 gene polymorphism in patients diagnosed with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) at Sohag University Hospital in Egypt. The research focuses on understanding the genetic factors contributing to the prevalence and severity of COPD, particularly in a region where data on this condition is limited. By genotyping the SIRT1 gene, the study seeks to identify potential genetic markers that may influence the disease's progression and response to treatment. The findings could provide valuable insights into the genetic underpinnings of COPD in the Egyptian population.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are patients admitted to the chest department at Sohag University Hospital who have been diagnosed with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
Not a fit: Patients with malignancies, other chronic diseases, or known chronic cardiorespiratory diseases will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved understanding of genetic risk factors for COPD, potentially guiding personalized treatment strategies for patients.
How similar studies have performed: While there is limited data on similar studies in Egypt, research on genetic factors in COPD has shown promise in other populations, suggesting potential for success.
