Gathering genetic information to improve coronary artery disease risk prediction
Genetics and Vascular Health Check Study (GENVASC)
University of Leicester · NCT04417387
This study is testing if using genetic information can help doctors better predict the risk of coronary artery disease in people, especially those who are currently considered at low or medium risk.

What this trial studies
The Genetics and Vascular Health Check study (GENVASC) aims to determine if genetic information can enhance the prediction of Coronary Artery Disease (CAD) risk. Conducted in collaboration with Clinical Commissioning Groups and Primary Care practices in Leicester, Leicestershire, and Northamptonshire, this observational study seeks to refine current risk categorization methods. By analyzing genetic variants alongside traditional demographic and lifestyle factors, the study hopes to identify individuals at risk more accurately, particularly those in low and medium risk categories who may benefit from targeted prevention strategies.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are males and females aged 40 to 74 who are eligible for an NHS Health Check.
Not a fit: Patients with a history of preexisting cardiovascular disease or blood borne infections will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved risk assessment and prevention strategies for individuals at risk of coronary artery disease.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown promise in using genetic information to improve risk prediction for cardiovascular diseases, making this approach both relevant and potentially impactful.
