What this trial studies
This is a randomized interventional study delivered over six months across primary schools in Extremadura, with three intervention arms using a gamified curriculum of daily, weekly, and fortnightly activities. The programme engages children, their teachers, and families and uses the BELLOTEX-SALUD app for parental involvement and tracking. Primary outcomes include changes in diet, sedentary behaviour (screen time), and daily physical activity. Pupils with special educational needs are excluded and participation requires parental consent.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Primary school pupils enrolled at participating schools in Extremadura whose parents or legal guardians sign informed consent and agree to use the BELLOTEX-SALUD application.
Not a fit: Children with special educational needs (excluded), pupils who join after the programme starts, or those without parental consent or family engagement are unlikely to benefit from the intervention.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, the programme could help children eat healthier, cut down on sedentary screen time, and be more physically active daily.
How similar studies have performed: Previous school-based and gamified health education programs have shown modest improvements in activity and diet in children, though results across studies are mixed.
