Frequency of MAFLD and its links to nutrition and metabolic risk in rural Bangladesh
Frequency of MAFLD and Its Association With Nutritional Status and Metabolic Risk Factors in a Rural Population of Bangladesh
This project will see how common MAFLD is and whether nutritional status and metabolic risk factors are linked among adults living in a rural area of Bangladesh.

What this trial studies
This cross-sectional observational project will enroll adults from a selected rural community in Bangladesh to measure the frequency of metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD) and its relationship with nutritional and metabolic risk factors. Participants will receive a clinical assessment, standard anthropometric measurements, laboratory testing of metabolic parameters, and abdominal ultrasonography to detect hepatic steatosis. Nutritional status will be characterized using established anthropometric and clinical criteria. Pregnant people and those with severe illnesses that preclude participation will be excluded from the assessments.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Adults aged 18 or older who live in the selected rural community and can attend local clinical visits, excluding pregnant people and those with severe illnesses that prevent participation.
Not a fit: People who are pregnant, bedridden, have severe illnesses such as active cancer or paralysis, or who do not live in the selected rural communities are unlikely to benefit from participation.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, the findings could help target screening and prevention efforts by identifying common risk factors for MAFLD in rural Bangladesh.
How similar studies have performed: Many international and urban Bangladeshi studies have linked MAFLD with obesity and metabolic dysfunction, but comparable data from rural Bangladeshi populations remain limited.
