What this trial studies
This observational validation project adapts and tests the Portuguese QASCI questionnaire in French-speaking caregivers of patients with COPD. Caregivers who meet inclusion criteria will complete the French QASCI and related measures at participating centers in Brittany. The study will examine linguistic and cultural fit and use standard psychometric analyses (reliability, internal consistency, and construct validity) to determine whether the translated questionnaire performs acceptably. Recruitment and data collection occur at the University Hospital of Brest and the Centre Hospitalier de Morlaix.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal participants are adult (18+) family caregivers or household members of a patient with COPD in stable condition who can read and complete French questionnaires and who provide non-opposition to participate.
Not a fit: Caregivers who cannot complete French questionnaires, who are under judicial protection, whose patient had a recent exacerbation, or who care for patients with cognitive impairment are excluded and therefore unlikely to benefit from participation.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, clinicians and researchers will have a validated French tool to measure caregiver burden and better target support services.
How similar studies have performed: The QASCI was originally validated in Portuguese (Hipolito et al.) and has been used in other language adaptations, so this is a linguistic and cultural validation of an established instrument rather than a wholly novel concept.
