Frailty, dual-task performance, and everyday activities in older adults

The Relationship Between Frailty, Dual-Task Performance, and Activities of Daily Living in Older Adults

Observational KTO Karatay University · NCT07415382

This project will see if performance on combined walking-and-thinking tests is linked with frailty and ability to do daily activities in adults aged 65–85.

What this trial studies

This observational study will enroll ambulatory older adults at KTO Karatay University to measure dual-task performance alongside frailty status and activities of daily living. Eligible participants who are literate, cognitively intact (MMSE ≥24), and able to walk 10 meters without an assistive device will complete standardized motor-cognitive dual-task tests, frailty screening, and ADL questionnaires or performance measures. Researchers will analyze associations between dual-task costs, frailty markers, and functional ability to identify patterns that relate mobility-cognition interactions to everyday independence. All data collection is done in person and no interventional treatments are given.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ambulatory adults aged 65–85 who are literate, have an MMSE score of 24 or higher, can walk 10 meters unaided, and do not have severe sensory, neurological, orthopedic, or communication-limiting psychiatric conditions.

Not a fit: People with severe neurological disorders (e.g., Parkinson's, recent stroke), major orthopedic limitations, advanced sensory loss, significant cognitive impairment (MMSE <24), or psychiatric conditions that prevent communication are unlikely to benefit or be eligible.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, the findings could help clinicians identify older adults at risk of functional decline and target interventions to preserve independence.

How similar studies have performed: Previous observational work has shown links between dual-task performance, frailty, and daily function, but causal evidence and standardized clinical applications remain limited.
