Following patients with aortic valve bicuspidia
Prospective Follow-up of a Cohort of Patients With Aortic Valve Bicuspidia: Multicentre Study

What this trial studies
This observational study aims to follow a cohort of patients diagnosed with aortic valve bicuspidia, a congenital condition characterized by having two leaflets instead of three. The study seeks to understand the natural history of this condition, particularly its progression towards severe valvulopathy and the risk of developing ascending aortic aneurysms. By examining patients through echocardiography, researchers will gather data on the potential prognostic factors that influence disease progression. This research is crucial for improving management strategies for affected individuals.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are individuals diagnosed with aortic valve bicuspidia who have been examined in an echocardiography laboratory.
Not a fit: Patients who have previously undergone surgery for bicuspid valve or ascending aorta are unlikely to benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance understanding of aortic valve bicuspidia and lead to better monitoring and treatment strategies for patients.
How similar studies have performed: While the natural history of bicuspid aortic valve has been studied, this specific observational approach to understanding its progression is less common and may provide novel insights.
Eligibility criteria

Inclusion Criteria: * All patients examined in the echocardiography laboratory whose objective examination was a bicuspid valve of the aortic valve * Bicuspidia may be formerly known Exclusion Criteria: * Refusal to participate * Patients who had already undergone bicuspid surgery or ascending aorta before being examined at the echocardiography laboratory
