What this trial studies
This observational study conducts focus groups with Black and Hispanic families to explore their priorities regarding children's mental health, specifically in relation to Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder and emotional dysfunction. The aim is to identify barriers to participation in a planned multinutrient feasibility study and gather insights on the use of complementary and integrative health interventions. Participants will share their experiences and perceptions, which will inform the design and recruitment strategies for future research. The study emphasizes the importance of understanding diverse perspectives in mental health treatment.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are adult parents or caregivers who self-identify as Black or Hispanic and have a child aged 6-18 with suspected ADHD or emotional dysregulation.
Not a fit: Patients who do not self-identify as Black or Hispanic or those unwilling to participate in focus groups will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance the engagement of racially and ethnically diverse families in mental health research and improve treatment approaches for children's mental health issues.
How similar studies have performed: While this approach is focused on gathering qualitative data from specific communities, similar studies have shown success in enhancing research participation and tailoring interventions to meet the needs of diverse populations.
