Finding new biomarkers for biliary tract cancer and gallbladder cancer

Identification of New Biomarkers for Patients With Biliary Tract Cancer (Cholangiocarcinoma and Gallbladder Cancer) - do They Provide New Information Regarding Diagnosis, Treatment Efficacy, Side Effects, or Prognosis?

Observational Herlev and Gentofte Hospital · NCT05184400

What this trial studies

This observational study aims to identify new diagnostic, prognostic, and predictive biomarkers for biliary tract cancer (BTC), which includes cholangiocarcinoma and gallbladder cancer. Given the poor prognosis associated with BTC, the study will collect biological materials such as blood samples and tissue from patients undergoing standard or protocolized treatment. The goal is to enhance early diagnosis, improve prognostication, and predict treatment efficacy through the analysis of these biomarkers. Patients will be monitored throughout their treatment journey to assess the effectiveness of the identified biomarkers.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates include patients with a confirmed histological or cytological diagnosis of biliary tract cancer who are referred for treatment.

Not a fit: Patients without a diagnosis of biliary tract cancer or those not seeking treatment may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to earlier diagnosis and better treatment outcomes for patients with biliary tract cancer.

How similar studies have performed: While there is limited success with similar approaches, this study aims to explore novel biomarkers that have not been validated in routine clinical practice.
