Financial burden after surgery for bone and soft tissue sarcoma
Financial Toxicity in Patients With Resected Soft Tissue and Bone Sarcomas
M.D. Anderson Cancer Center · NCT07215611

What this trial studies
This observational project will measure the prevalence and severity of financial toxicity in adult patients undergoing surgical treatment for primary malignant bone or soft tissue tumors using a validated instrument. Investigators will collect demographic, socioeconomic, clinicopathologic, and treatment-related data from patients seen preoperatively at a single tertiary cancer center. Secondary objectives include identifying socioeconomic and demographic risk factors and clinicopathologic features associated with greater financial stress. All participants must be English-literate and treated at the enrolling site.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Adult orthopedic oncology patients seen preoperatively at MD Anderson for resection of a primary malignant bone or soft tissue tumor who can read and write English.
Not a fit: Non-English speakers, pediatric patients, people treated outside MD Anderson, or those not undergoing surgical resection would not be eligible and therefore would not directly benefit from participation.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, the findings could help clinicians identify patients at high risk for financial hardship and guide programs or policy changes to reduce financial stress and protect quality of life.
How similar studies have performed: Prior oncology research has repeatedly documented financial toxicity with validated tools and linked it to worse quality of life, though focused work specifically in orthopedic oncology is less common.
