What this trial studies

The FEAST Perinatal Support Program partners with community organizations to deliver culturally relevant dietary psychoeducation, cooking and shopping skill-building, and social support for pregnant and postpartum people. The program includes in-person group sessions delivered in Los Angeles and provides grocery gift cards to reduce financial barriers to healthy food. Enrollment is limited to people who speak and read English and are eligible for EBT or WIC benefits, and participants must be able to attend sessions in person. The intervention aims to improve diet, well-being, and downstream cardiometabolic risk for parent and child in under-resourced urban communities.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are pregnant people in Los Angeles who speak and read English and are eligible for EBT or WIC benefits and can attend in-person sessions.

Not a fit: People who cannot attend in-person sessions or who are not eligible for EBT/WIC are unlikely to benefit from this program.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this program could improve maternal dietary habits and well-being during pregnancy and postpartum and reduce future cardiometabolic risk for both parent and baby.

How similar studies have performed: Similar community-based nutrition and social-support programs have produced mixed results, with some improvements in dietary behavior but inconsistent effects on weight and cardiometabolic outcomes.
