What this trial studies
This study assesses the feasibility of conducting a future large-scale trial comparing two treatments for pediatric functional seizures in adolescents aged 11-18. Participants will be randomized to receive either Retraining and Control Therapy (ReACT) or Competent Adulthood Transition with Cognitive Behavioral, Humanistic, and Interpersonal Training (CATCH-IT). The study will measure recruitment feasibility, treatment acceptability, and participant retention through follow-up visits and questionnaires. The interventions will be delivered through a combination of in-person and telehealth sessions over a period of 12 weeks.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are adolescents aged 11-18 diagnosed with functional seizures who have internet access for telehealth sessions.
Not a fit: Patients with comorbid epilepsy or those experiencing fewer than four functional seizures per month may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to effective treatment options for children suffering from functional seizures.
How similar studies have performed: While similar approaches have been explored, this specific combination of treatments for pediatric functional seizures is relatively novel.
