What this trial studies
This observational study evaluates a new management pathway for patients with chronic hepatitis B (CHB) in Hong Kong. It involves a retrospective-prospective longitudinal cohort design, comparing patient outcomes before and after the introduction of the pathway. The study aims to enhance the referral process from general outpatient clinics to specialist clinics, utilizing assessment tools like transient elastography and HBV DNA assays. Additionally, it will analyze linkage-to-care rates over a three-year period prior to the pathway's launch.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults with a positive hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) for at least six months who are under the care of general outpatient clinics.
Not a fit: Patients under 18 years of age or those who refuse to consent will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could significantly improve the management and treatment outcomes for patients with chronic hepatitis B.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown success with similar management pathways for chronic hepatitis, indicating potential for positive outcomes.
