What this trial studies
This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of a 16-week lifestyle intervention designed for high-risk Latino families to reduce risk factors for type 2 diabetes and enhance quality of life. The intervention is based on a culturally-grounded Ecodevelopmental model that takes into account various factors influencing health behaviors within family and community contexts. By comparing families participating in the intervention to control families, the study seeks to understand the impact of family dynamics on health outcomes. Integrative Mixed Methods will be employed to gather comprehensive data on the intervention's efficacy.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates include Latino children aged 10-16 years who are classified as obese and their parents.
Not a fit: Patients who are currently diagnosed with type 2 diabetes or have conditions affecting metabolism may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this intervention could significantly reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes in Latino families and improve their overall quality of life.
How similar studies have performed: While lifestyle interventions have shown success in various adult populations, this family-focused approach specifically targeting Latino communities is novel and has not been extensively tested.
