What this trial studies
This observational research project aims to characterize a cohort of children and adolescents with eating disorders by examining their biological, psychological, and psychopathological features. It focuses on the effectiveness of outpatient family-based treatment (FBT) for conditions like anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa, while also exploring treatment responses for atypical eating disorders. The study will assess patient and family characteristics that predict treatment outcomes and recovery times, as well as the need for more intensive care in certain cases. Additionally, it will compare treatment effectiveness in Denmark with results from other countries.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are children and adolescents beginning treatment for an eating disorder.
Not a fit: Patients who cannot provide informed consent will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could improve treatment strategies for young patients with eating disorders, leading to better recovery outcomes.
How similar studies have performed: While family-based treatment has shown effectiveness for certain eating disorders, this study addresses gaps in treatment for atypical eating disorders, making it a novel approach.
