What this trial studies
This study aims to assess the feasibility and acceptability of a family-based intervention called 'Walk Together' designed for African Americans with uncontrolled hypertension. The intervention focuses on integrating family support into hypertension self-management practices, which include monitoring blood pressure, dietary changes, and exercise. By adapting an existing dyadic intervention to better fit the cultural context of African Americans, the study seeks to enhance the effectiveness of hypertension management in primary care settings. The pilot trial will evaluate how well this intervention can be implemented and received by participants.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are Black or African American adults aged 18 to 75 with uncontrolled hypertension and a willing family support person.
Not a fit: Patients who may not benefit include those with severe psychiatric conditions, cognitive impairments, or those who have previously participated in hypertension health education interventions.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this intervention could significantly improve hypertension management and health outcomes for African Americans by leveraging family support.
How similar studies have performed: Previous studies have shown success with family-based interventions for chronic conditions, indicating a promising approach for hypertension management in this population.
