What this trial studies
Families attend six weekly, one-hour in-person sessions with their 3–5-year-old child that teach strategies to be active together. Participants complete surveys before and after the 6-week program, a brief evaluation after each session, and a one-hour group interview after the final session. The curriculum focuses on practical, family-based activities and behavior-change strategies to increase joint physical activity. Data collection emphasizes participant feedback and changes in reported activity patterns over the program period.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Parents aged 18 or older with a 3–5-year-old child living in their home who can participate in in-person physical activities are the ideal candidates.
Not a fit: Families where the parent or child has physical activity limitations, or those unable to attend in-person sessions, are unlikely to benefit from this program.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, the program could help families establish regular shared physical activities that increase activity levels for both parents and preschoolers.
How similar studies have performed: Prior family-based physical activity programs for young children have shown modest success in increasing activity and improving family engagement, so this approach builds on earlier findings.
