What this trial studies

This observational study reviews adults hospitalized between January 1, 2019 and December 31, 2024 at participating centers who had at least one positive blood culture for Streptococcus anginosus, S. constellatus, or S. intermedius. Investigators will extract clinical, microbiological, comorbidity, and treatment data from hospital records and analyze which patient characteristics, infection sources, or management factors are associated with in-hospital mortality. No experimental treatments are given; the work is a retrospective chart-based analysis and excludes patients who refuse participation. The aim is to identify risk factors that could guide earlier recognition and more targeted care for high-risk patients.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Adults (18+) hospitalized at a participating center during 2019–2024 with at least one positive blood culture for a Streptococcus anginosus group organism who do not refuse participation are eligible.

Not a fit: People under 18, outpatients, or patients without a confirmed Streptococcal anginosus bloodstream infection are unlikely to benefit directly from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, results could help clinicians identify high-risk patients sooner and tailor care to reduce deaths from these infections.

How similar studies have performed: Previous observational studies have reported high mortality (~15%) with S. anginosus group bacteremia, but factors driving death remain incompletely defined.
